When PlayStation Network fails

PlayStation Network runs online play, the PlayStation Store and account sign-in. Sony reports each of them per country on its service status page.

We check PSN sign-in, the web services behind the PlayStation App and the store, plus playstation.com. Online play and party chat on the console run on servers that are not public URLs: they can fail while these answer, and the official page lists each service.

If PlayStation Network is not working for you

  1. Find what fails for you among the services we monitor above. If that service is green, the problem is likely on your side: try the next steps.
  2. Open playstation.com on another network, such as mobile data. If it works there, the problem is your connection, your DNS or your VPN.
  3. Update or restart the app, then sign out and back in.
  4. Look for an incident on one feature on status.playstation.com.

Questions about PlayStation Network outages.

Is PlayStation Network down right now?

The status at the top of this page comes from Hyperping checks of PlayStation Network, run every minute and refreshed on the page every 60 seconds. Green means the latest checks succeeded; red means they are failing, confirmed from several regions.

How do you check PlayStation Network?

We monitor 4 PlayStation Network services every minute, in turn from Virginia, Frankfurt and Singapore: PSN sign-in (ca.account.sony.com, up on a 400 response), PlayStation web services (web.np.playstation.com, up on a 400 response), PlayStation Store (store.playstation.com, up on a successful response) and Website (www.playstation.com, up on a successful response). When a check fails, other regions check again before that service counts as down. PlayStation Network counts as down when all of them are, and as partly down when only some are. We check PSN sign-in, the web services behind the PlayStation App and the store, plus playstation.com. Online play and party chat on the console run on servers that are not public URLs: they can fail while these answer, and the official page lists each service.

PlayStation Network is up here but not working for me. Why?

An outage can be partial: one feature, one app, one country or one internet provider, and our checks see PlayStation Network from data centers. Try another network such as mobile data, update or restart the app, and check the official status page for an incident on one feature.

Does PlayStation Network have an official status page?

Yes, status.playstation.com. PlayStation Network's team updates it by hand, so it can lag behind the start of an outage; our checks run every minute whatever it says.

Can I get alerted when PlayStation Network goes down?

Yes. Create a free Hyperping account and add ca.account.sony.com as a monitor: you are alerted by email, Slack or your other channels within a minute of a failure. The free plan includes 20 monitors, enough for your own site and the services it depends on.
