When Microsoft 365 fails

Microsoft 365 covers Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, OneDrive and SharePoint. Most incidents hit one app for some tenants, and admins see the details in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Outlook and Teams answer automated checks with an error page, so this page measures Microsoft sign-in, which every Microsoft 365 app depends on.

If Microsoft 365 is not working for you

  1. Open microsoft365.com on another network, such as mobile data. If it works there, the problem is your connection, your DNS or your VPN.
  2. Update or restart the app, then sign out and back in.
  3. Look for an incident on one feature on status.cloud.microsoft.

Questions about Microsoft 365 outages.

Is Microsoft 365 down right now?

The status at the top of this page comes from Hyperping checks of Microsoft 365, run every minute and refreshed on the page every 60 seconds. Green means the latest checks succeeded; red means they are failing, confirmed from several regions.

How do you check Microsoft 365?

We send an HTTP request to login.microsoftonline.com every minute, in turn from Virginia, Frankfurt and Singapore, and count a successful response as up. When a check fails, other regions check again before Microsoft 365 counts as down. Outlook and Teams answer automated checks with an error page, so this page measures Microsoft sign-in, which every Microsoft 365 app depends on.

Microsoft 365 is up here but not working for me. Why?

An outage can be partial: one feature, one app, one country or one internet provider, and our checks see Microsoft 365 from data centers. Try another network such as mobile data, update or restart the app, and check the official status page for an incident on one feature.

Does Microsoft 365 have an official status page?

Yes, status.cloud.microsoft. Microsoft 365's team updates it by hand, so it can lag behind the start of an outage; our checks run every minute whatever it says.

Can I get alerted when Microsoft 365 goes down?

Yes. Create a free Hyperping account and add login.microsoftonline.com as a monitor: you are alerted by email, Slack or your other channels within a minute of a failure. The free plan includes 20 monitors, enough for your own site and the services it depends on.
