When Minecraft fails

Minecraft: Java Edition signs in through Microsoft accounts and Minecraft services, and multiplayer servers verify players on Mojang's session server. Bedrock Edition, on consoles and phones, relies on the Xbox network instead.

minecraft.net blocks automated checks, so we check two services Java Edition depends on: Minecraft services, where a 401 without a session means it is answering, and Mojang's session server, asked for a public profile.

If Minecraft is not working for you

  1. Find what fails for you among the services we monitor above. If that service is green, the problem is likely on your side: try the next steps.
  2. Open minecraft.net on another network, such as mobile data. If it works there, the problem is your connection, your DNS or your VPN.
  3. Update or restart the app, then sign out and back in.
  4. Look for posts about an outage: Mojang has no public status page; it posts known issues on the MojangSupport account on X.

Questions about Minecraft outages.

Is Minecraft down right now?

The status at the top of this page comes from Hyperping checks of Minecraft, run every minute and refreshed on the page every 60 seconds. Green means the latest checks succeeded; red means they are failing, confirmed from several regions.

How do you check Minecraft?

We monitor 2 Minecraft services every minute, in turn from Virginia, Frankfurt and Singapore: Minecraft services (api.minecraftservices.com, up on a 401 response) and Session server (sessionserver.mojang.com, up on a successful response). When a check fails, other regions check again before that service counts as down. Minecraft counts as down when all of them are, and as partly down when only some are. minecraft.net blocks automated checks, so we check two services Java Edition depends on: Minecraft services, where a 401 without a session means it is answering, and Mojang's session server, asked for a public profile.

Minecraft is up here but not working for me. Why?

An outage can be partial: one feature, one app, one country or one internet provider, and our checks see Minecraft from data centers. Try another network such as mobile data, update or restart the app, and check the official status page for an incident on one feature.

Does Minecraft have an official status page?

No. Mojang has no public status page; it posts known issues on the MojangSupport account on X. Our checks are a way to see whether Minecraft answers right now.

Can I get alerted when Minecraft goes down?

Yes. Create a free Hyperping account and add api.minecraftservices.com as a monitor: you are alerted by email, Slack or your other channels within a minute of a failure. The free plan includes 20 monitors, enough for your own site and the services it depends on.
