When Claude fails

Claude is Anthropic's assistant, on claude.ai, in the apps, in Claude Code and through the Anthropic API. These surfaces can fail separately, and Anthropic reports each of them on its status page.

claude.ai answers automated checks with a Cloudflare challenge, so we check three parts of Claude that do answer: the Claude API, where a 401 without a key means it is answering, the Claude Console, and the Console's backend, where a 403 without a session means the same. claude.ai can still fail while all three answer.

How do you check Claude?

We monitor 3 Claude services every minute, in turn from Virginia, Frankfurt and Singapore: Claude API (api.anthropic.com, up on a 401 response), Claude Console (platform.claude.com, up on a successful response) and Console backend (platform.claude.com, up on a 403 response). When a check fails, other regions check again before that service counts as down. Claude counts as down when all of them are, and as partly down when only some are. claude.ai answers automated checks with a Cloudflare challenge, so we check three parts of Claude that do answer: the Claude API, where a 401 without a key means it is answering, the Claude Console, and the Console's backend, where a 403 without a session means the same. claude.ai can still fail while all three answer.

Claude is up here but not working for me. Why?

An outage can be partial: one feature, one app, one country or one internet provider, and our checks see Claude from data centers. Try another network such as mobile data, update or restart the app, and check the official status page for an incident on one feature.

Does Claude have an official status page?

Yes, status.claude.com. Claude's team updates it by hand, so it can lag behind the start of an outage; our checks run every minute whatever it says.
