If you're comparing UptimeRobot and Oh Dear, both will tell you a URL returned 200. What they do with that answer is the actual product difference, and the pricing pages hide it because they bill in different units.
UptimeRobot is the default cheap uptime checker: 50 free monitors, a claimed 3.4 million users, 15-second checks on Scale, and status pages that jump to 100 on Team. Oh Dear is a Belgian website-health product aimed at agencies and Laravel teams. One site gets uptime, SSL chain checks, broken links, mixed content, Lighthouse, DNS, cron, and a status page, billed per site, with every feature on every plan.
Neither product is organized around who is on call or how a customer-facing incident gets owned. That gap is where Hyperping sits, and it's why we appear in the tables below: uptime checks, Playwright browser tests, server agents, on-call, incidents, and status pages on flat plans.
This guide compares all three across eight dimensions where they overlap, then spends a section on the work Hyperping does not do. Figures come from each vendor's published rates as of August 2026 and from 157 unique G2 reviews we collected: 135 for UptimeRobot, 22 for Oh Dear. The Oh Dear sample is small and mostly vendor-sourced, so treat those scores as thinner evidence than UptimeRobot's.
Why you should trust this guide
I'm Léo, founder of Hyperping, so I have a stake in one of these tools. I've also watched agencies pick Oh Dear over us and been right to, and watched solo developers stay on UptimeRobot's free plan for years because 50 monitors at five minutes is enough. Quick verdict
Choose UptimeRobot if you want a lot of endpoint checks for little money, you like the free plan, or you need 15-second intervals and a pile of status pages without paying for on-call. Stay on Free if five-minute polling is acceptable. Jump to Team when you need 30-second checks, white-label pages, and a few seats.
Choose Oh Dear if you run an agency or a portfolio of marketing sites and the job is "is this whole site healthy," not "is this API up." Broken links, mixed content, Lighthouse, SSL chain history, cron, DNS, client reports, and a branded status page per site are the product. Site-count pricing is the cost of that bundle.
Choose Hyperping if the job is external availability, who gets woken, and a customer-facing status page, and you want one flat number per month. Playwright checks and a Linux or macOS server agent are in the same plans. The UptimeRobot migration guide covers the most common switch we see.
Uptime and check coverage
All three run scheduled checks against endpoints. The differences are interval, vantage points, and what counts as a unit of billing.

UptimeRobot covers the widest list of endpoint types, including UDP, which neither of the others publishes. Location-specific monitoring lets you attach region-specific alert thresholds across those four regions. Scale's 15-second interval is faster than anything Hyperping sells on self-serve, and Team already matches our paid 30-second default. The free plan is the acquisition engine: 50 monitors is more than Hyperping's 20. The awkward bit is Solo. Paid Solo starts at 10 selected monitors, so moving off Free can cut your monitor count while raising the check frequency.
Oh Dear checks every minute from multiple locations and verifies a failure from a second location before paging you. A minute is slower than UptimeRobot Team and Hyperping Essentials. For a brochure site that is fine. For a payment API, 60 seconds of undetected downtime is a different conversation. The compensating design is breadth per site: that one minute also covers SSL, DNS, and the rest of the health suite, with broken-link crawls and Lighthouse on a daily cadence.
Hyperping runs 30-second checks on paid plans, 20 seconds on Business, from 19 regions across North America, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia, the Middle East, and Africa. A first failure in one region triggers an immediate re-check across every selected region, and the outage only opens if that confirms. False positives are the fastest way to make a team mute alerts, and this is the mechanism that prevents them.

Oh Dear's pitch is that a green uptime dot can hide a dead checkout link, an HTTP image breaking the padlock, a stale sitemap, or a Lighthouse slide. Agencies buy that because the client notices those things even when the homepage returns 200. Client-ready monthly reports, with the agency's name on them, are part of the same loop.
UptimeRobot's SSL and domain monitors are expiry reminders plus HTTPS error detection. The comparison table says HTTPS SSL-error monitoring is paid, while the Free card still lists an SSL and domain-expiration monitor, so the public page disagrees with itself. Treat SSL on Free as something to verify in a trial rather than assume.
Hyperping's SSL sequence is 30, 14, 7, and 1 days, plus chain and common-name errors on HTTPS monitors. There is no certificate-change history, no Certificate Transparency feed, and no broken-link crawler. If you manage 40 WordPress sites for clients, Oh Dear is doing work we do not do. If you run a SaaS API, you probably did not want a link crawler.
Browser and synthetic checks
Uptime checks tell you an endpoint returned 200. Browser checks tell you a user could sign in.

UptimeRobot's keyword monitor looks at HTML source. Reddit threads about JavaScript-rendering limits are consistent with that design: a client-rendered app can look "up" while the actual UI is broken. API monitors add JSON field validation, which is useful and still not a browser.
Oh Dear validates status codes, bodies, headers, and response times on HTTP and API checks, and ships AI-powered checks that can verify conditions you describe. That is broader than a ping. It is still not a headed browser running signup and checkout.
Hyperping includes Playwright checks in the plan: 3 on Essentials, 10 on Pro, 25 on Business, 2-minute timeout, video and trace on failure. There is no per-run meter, so a check that runs every 5 minutes costs the same as one that runs hourly. The tradeoff is a fixed 5-minute interval and a ceiling on how many you get.

UptimeRobot's alerting is the reason people stay. Newest G2 reviews keep repeating timely email and multi-channel notifications. Voice and SMS exist, but credits are one-time packs (10 for $3, 100 for $15, up to 1,000 for $100) and the pricing page says they do not renew with the plan. You can auto-refill when you hit a low-credit limit. That is workable and it is still a meter. Recurring notifications ("still down, ping again in Y minutes") cover some of what an escalation policy does, without rotations, timezone handoffs, or vacation overrides. For that, the integrations page points at on-call vendors.
Oh Dear's agency-shaped routing is a real idea: the alert goes to whoever owns that client, not the whole team. Channels are broad and included. Native on-call calendars are not. One G2 review, from June 2026, said snoozing from Slack snoozes everything, which can hide a more important alert. That is a single report, not a pattern, and worth reproducing in a trial if Slack is your primary inbox.
Hyperping's escalation policies chain steps with configurable delays, so a step can go to Slack instantly, SMS after five minutes, and a phone call after ten. An on-call schedule can be the recipient of a step, which means only the person on rotation gets woken. Schedules support multiple rotations in one view for follow-the-sun coverage, time restrictions that split business-hours from after-hours paths, and vacation overrides. Plan limits are 1 schedule on Essentials, 3 on Pro, unlimited on Business. Extra SMS credits are $5 per 20, and they refuel monthly. We do not have a mobile app. If you need to check status on a phone in a taxi, UptimeRobot has iOS and Android apps and we do not.

The useful differences are how many pages you get, whether branding is included, and whether the page is tied to an incident workflow.

UptimeRobot Team at $39/month annually includes 100 white-labeled status pages. That number undercuts Hyperping on quantity at every self-serve tier we sell. Scale makes pages unlimited. Translations cover English, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish. If the requirement is a page per customer site at a low price, UptimeRobot Team is the straightforward pick.
Oh Dear includes a status page with every site, custom domain, subscribers, incident templates, and maintenance communication. For an agency, that means the page is part of the site fee rather than a second product. White-labeling so clients never see Oh Dear is part of the agency story. Unlimited users and SSO are on Solo, which is the inverse of how most monitoring tools gate access.
Hyperping includes fewer pages and gates white labeling, SAML, IP allowlisting, and unlimited subscribers to Business. What you get in exchange is the rest of the incident path on the same object: monitors map to services, outages open incidents, incidents sync to the page, subscribers get email, Slack, or SMS, and maintenance windows suppress alerts while posting. Sections, nested service groups, manual components, healthcheck components for cron, an embeddable footer badge, a JSON API, and a statuspage.io importer are the details that make it usable as sales collateral rather than a uptime widget.

If you need 50 client pages and monthly PDF-style reports, Oh Dear or UptimeRobot Team is the better fit. If you need one or ten pages that engineering, support, and sales all trust during an incident, Hyperping is built around that.

UptimeRobot has grown a real incident object: acknowledge, assign, comment, export, root-cause notes, and post-mortems, with status-page updates attached. Free cannot comment. That is more than a down/up email, and less than an on-call product. You still bring PagerDuty or similar if someone has to be woken in a rotation.
Oh Dear's incident work is communication-shaped: templates, maintenance, status-page updates, and "we're on it" before the client emails. The homepage quote from thera-LINK's CTO is the intended outcome: Oh Dear caught something another uptime monitor missed. There is no published on-call calendar or MTTA dashboard.
Hyperping opens outages from monitor failures and can acknowledge, escalate, or resolve them. Manual incidents and acknowledge-and-escalate need Pro. Incidents sync to linked status pages with the usual investigating, identified, monitoring, resolved progression. Business adds MTTA and MTTR. There is no AI post-mortem writer. There is a free template generator.

UptimeRobot will tell you a host answers ping or a port is open. That is reachability, not capacity.
Oh Dear is explicit: no agent. Application health is an endpoint you expose, which fits Laravel teams already shipping a health route. The sister product Flare is what they recommend for inside-out exception monitoring. CPU, memory, and disk as first-class charts are not the offer.
Hyperping's agent is a one-line install on Linux or macOS, roughly 50 MB resident, 30-second scrape, shipping CPU, load average, memory, per-mount filesystem, per-device disk I/O, and per-interface network over OTLP with an on-disk queue. It does not collect per-process metrics, swap, packet errors, or anything container-aware, and there is no Windows build. Additional agents are $2/month, $1.50 on Business.

UptimeRobot's API and mobile apps are how a lot of the 3.4 million-user base actually lives in the product. MCP appears in the current navigation. I have not treated that as equivalent to a documented tool list without reading the schema.
Oh Dear publishes a full API and positions SDKs in its docs. Unlimited users from Solo means you are not buying seats to let a contractor see one client.
Hyperping's MCP server exposes 25+ tools over the API covering monitors, outages, SLA and MTTR figures, on-call, and monitor create/update, scoped server-side to one project per API key. Unlimited projects start at Essentials, which is the agency-shaped packaging we do have: one project per customer, even if status page count is the limiter.

Every feature is included: SSO, unlimited users, status pages, crawling, Lighthouse, SSL, DNS, cron. The only lever is site and server count. That is generous when one site needs every check. It gets expensive when you have many small client sites, or many independent API monitors that each count as a site.
Hyperping is $29, $89, or $299 monthly, or $24, $74, or $249 billed annually. Add-ons are extra seats at $12/month on Business, server agents at $2/month, SAML connectors at $49 to $99/month, and SMS credits at $5 per 20.
Three scenarios, annual rates. Oh Dear assumes one site per monitor in the first two rows, which is the expensive reading. If those monitors live on a handful of sites, drop Oh Dear to the matching site tier.

Read the third row twice. UptimeRobot Team is the cheapest way to put a white-labeled page on 50 sites. Oh Dear Agency is the cheapest way to also crawl those sites, run Lighthouse, and send a branded monthly report. Hyperping Business is the wrong shape for 50 client pages. Hyperping is the cheaper bundle in the first two rows when the buyer is a SaaS team with endpoints, on-call, and a few status pages. An agency CMS roster is a different purchase.
A July 2025 r/selfhosted thread described a move from an $8 UptimeRobot legacy plan to a $34 Team plan for about 30 to 35 homelab monitors. Treat that as pricing-history evidence, not a current surprise on the public page. The public page is already clear: Free is wide and slow, Solo is narrow and faster, Team is where most production teams land.
On compliance: Oh Dear is a Belgian company storing data in the EU, with a signable DPA. Hyperping is French, runs in EU data centers, and holds DIN ISO/IEC 27001 certification. UptimeRobot puts SOC 2, DPA, MSA, and security review on Enterprise. If EU residency is a procurement requirement, Oh Dear and Hyperping both remove a conversation that UptimeRobot's self-serve plans do not advertise.
Where Hyperping doesn't compete
Everything above is scoped to availability, response, and communication. These are the capabilities that sit outside that scope.

Those are not gaps we are pretending to close this quarter. If you need a link crawler, Lighthouse on a schedule, or a branded report for 40 client retainers, buy Oh Dear. If you need 50 free monitors or 15-second polling or an iOS app, UptimeRobot is the better tool. If resolving an incident means following a request through a service chain, none of the three is Datadog, and you should not use this comparison to pick an observability platform.
When teams outgrow UptimeRobot
The usual Hyperping customer in this pairing did not start with us. They started on UptimeRobot Free, added monitors until five-minute polling felt slow, paid for Team, and then hit a workflow problem rather than a monitor-count problem: nobody owned nights, the status page was a widget, and a 200 from /health was not the same as checkout working.
That is a graduation. UptimeRobot is good at the job it sold them. The next job is on-call plus a page that sales will link in a security questionnaire, plus a Playwright check on the path that makes money. You can bolt PagerDuty and a separate status product onto UptimeRobot. You can also stop assembling that stack.
Run both for a week if you are unsure. UptimeRobot's free allowance makes a parallel check cheap. Compare who alerted first, who flapped, and whether anyone knew who was on call.
A July 2025 r/sysadmin thread reported flapping alerts on UptimeRobot. Other commenters were not seeing it, so it was not universal. Cross-region confirmation is the thing to test, on them and on us, against the same endpoints.
What each platform genuinely lacks
UptimeRobot: No native on-call rotations. SMS and voice credits do not renew with the plan. Solo can reduce monitor count relative to Free. SSL wording on Free vs paid is inconsistent on the public pricing page. No Playwright browser checks, no host-level agent, four published regions. Plan-change complaints show up in older G2 reviews (2022 to 2024) and in a July 2025 legacy-plan Reddit thread. Newest G2 is overwhelmingly positive, so do not treat historical pricing anger as current product quality.
Oh Dear: One-minute checks. Site-count pricing punishes endpoint-heavy products and large low-value portfolios. No native on-call calendar. No installable CPU/memory/disk agent. G2 evidence is 22 reviews, 20 vendor-sourced, none below four stars, so independent complaint signal is thin. Public docs disagree on SSL reminder timing (marketing says 30 days adjustable, technical docs describe 14-day and 7-day Let's Encrypt windows).
Hyperping: No broken-link, mixed-content, sitemap, or Lighthouse checks. No mobile apps. No UDP. Twenty free monitors against UptimeRobot's 50. Twenty-second floor against UptimeRobot Scale's 15. Ten status pages on Business against UptimeRobot Team's 100. White label, SAML, and unlimited subscribers sit on Business. Server agent is Linux and macOS only. Browser checks are capped and fixed at 5 minutes. SMS is credit-based. Terraform is community-maintained. Manual incidents and phone alerts require Pro.
What G2 reviewers say
UptimeRobot's newest 100 reviews average 4.95/5 in our sample, covering June 2024 through August 2026. Praise concentrates on setup speed, timely alerts, and the free tier. The unique set of 135 includes 7 reviews at three stars or lower, mostly older plan-change and support complaints.
