How to create a maintenance window

To follow this tutorial, you will need a Hyperping account, which you can create from the Hyperping new account registration page if you don't already have one.

To get started, head to your Hyperping dashboard in the Maintenance section, and click on Create Maintenance.

What maintenance windows do

A maintenance window impacts two key aspects of your monitoring:

  • Monitor pausing: Selected monitors will stop pinging during the maintenance period, preventing false downtime alerts
  • Status page communication: Maintenance notices are displayed on selected status pages with subscriber notifications

Flexible options: You can:

  • Schedule maintenance for monitors only (without status page updates)
  • Post maintenance notices without pausing any monitors
  • Combine both monitor pausing and status page communication

Bulk/Repeat maintenance scheduling

You can schedule recurring maintenance windows (weekly, monthly, etc.) that automatically create multiple maintenance instances. This is perfect for regular maintenance schedules.

Basic maintenance setup

1. Schedule the timing: Set your maintenance start and end times, including timezone considerations

2. Select affected components: Choose which monitors will be paused during maintenance

3. Choose status pages: Select which status pages will display the maintenance notice

Flexible notification options

Choose how and when to notify your subscribers with three distinct options:

  • Do not send notifications: Keep maintenance internal - visible on status pages but no subscriber alerts
  • Send immediately when scheduled: Notify subscribers as soon as the maintenance is created
  • Send X minutes before maintenance starts: Customize advance notice timing (15 minutes to several days ahead)
Notification settings with subscriber count breakdown

The interface shows exactly how many subscribers will be notified, with a breakdown by channel type (Email, Slack, Teams, etc.), giving you complete visibility before sending.

Professional communication with rich text

Maintenance descriptions now support rich text formatting for clear, professional communication:

  • Bold and italic text for emphasis
  • Hyperlinks to reference external resources or documentation
  • Clean formatting that makes maintenance notices easy to read
